In June 2010 it was reported that archaeologists have found a large gladiator cemetery in York City,UK. The remains of about 80 gladiators were buried in individual graves. It is apparent that they were decapitated, since their heads were actually found in another place in the cemetery. Bite marks on some of the skeletons indicate that large carnivore animals were involved somehow.There was pretty good evidence that the gladiators were cared about and buried with care rather than thrown into a mass grave.
